On Stage Uxbridge is presenting the play That Summer by David French directed by Conrad Boyce
That Summeris a play about two sisters set in the late 1950s, it premiered at the Blyth Festival in 1999
Join "Maggie" as she takes us back to a summer in the late 50's at a lakeside resort here in Ontario where she and her sister Daisy vacationed with their family as it struggled to survive as a family. For her and her sister Daisy, it was a time of awakening and a time of discovery. .....
It's 1990 and Margaret Ryan has returned from Vermont to the Ontario cottage country, where she vacationed with her family. As the narrator Margaret watches Maggie, her younger self, relive the innocence and beauty of that summer. In reliving both the joy of first love and the pain of loss she comes to terms with her past and the summer that marked the end of her innocence.
Enjoy the story of two young girls who fall in love with two local boys. Daisy, on the lookout falls victim of her own confusion. Not even the eccentric neighbour Mrs' Crump, with all her fairy tale spells to help capture the heart, can help Daisy deal with her misadventures. Margaret, bookish and withdrawn, inhabiting a universe defined by poets and novelists, is seduced in spite of herself.
The play takes you back to the heartbreak of a headlong surrender to experience both won and lost in a single day .....
